Barcelona

Spain’s second largest city, built on the coast of the Mediterranean, is famous for its art, cosmopolitan culture and extraordinary architecture.  We ensure that with so much to do, you will experience the best the city has to offer.

We will be visiting the Old Gothic Quarter, the harbor, many museums and other historic landmarks.

The National Museum of Art of Catalonia - El Poble Espagnol

We will tour the National Museum of Art of Catalonia – El Poble Espangol, a "Spanish village," that was built in 1929, for the Barcelona International Exhibition. Nearby is the German Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe built for the same exhibition.

Today, re conceptualised as an open-air museum, it houses arts and craft exhibits, and is one of very few monuments from this era still open to the public. There are 15 distinct architectural styles in the village, each an example of a region of Spain; from Andalucía to the Balearic Islands, Madrid to Basque country.

The architects Ramon Reventós and Francesc Folguera, and the artists Xavier Nogués and Miquel Utrillo, visited 1600 towns and villages throughout the country during their research for the project. Today, there are some 40 workshops in operation, where visitors experience a wide range of arts and crafts, as well as having a tour of architectural Spain.

Dali’s Museum and houses

During our stay in Barcelona, we will be taking a day trip to visit Dali’s museum and houses.

And then to the houses of Galla and Dali in Cadaques and

Figueras.

Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the 1929 International Exposition, the German Pavilion is one of the most influential buildings of the 20th century.

Barcelona’s wonderful facades

Torre Agbar - Built by Jean Nouvel, the tower is 474 feet high with 38 floors and 4,500 LED luminous devices that create an ever-changing illuminated facade.  Sensors on the exterior of the building regulate the opening and closing of window shades in order to reduce the consumption of energy.
